Description

A pacemaker is a device that transmits tiny electrical impulses to the heart muscle in order to keep the heart rate stable or to stimulate the lower chambers of the heart (ventricles). The device is implanted in the chest to regulate the heartbeat. Its main purpose is to keep the heart from beating too slow. Temporary pacemakers are designed for treatment during hospitalization. They are used when a disease is believed to be short-term and resolve on its own, or when a person requires temporary therapy until a permanent pacemaker can be implanted. A temporary pacemaker's pulse generator is positioned outside the body and can be taped to the skin, affixed to a belt, or attached to the patient's bed. Temporary pacemakers’ patients are hospitalized and under constant monitoring. Doctors will conduct regular check-ups to look for any possible concerns. Permanent pacemakers are those that are designed to be used for an extended length of time and may be considered essential or suitable for certain persons who have symptomatic Bradyarrhythmia or, less typically, to assist in preventing or terminating tachyarrhythmia. Certain rules have been created regarding the situations under which a permanent pacemaker is implanted. In general, a permanent pacemaker is advised for certain chronic or recurring illnesses that are not caused by a temporary reason.
